University of Tennessee

The fight song of a university reflects the personality of the school.

It is a song that is used for the celebrations, inspiration, and encouragement.

For the University of Tennessee, the fight song, Rocky Top, has become engrained in the culture of the area and even the state.

Knoxville moving company, Peroulas Moving & Storage, have been rooting for the Volunteers for years and have researched the history of their beloved fight song.

The song made its first appearance at the University of Tennessee in 1972 when their band, Pride of the Southland Marching Band, performed it at their stadium. The crowd went crazy for the song. The popularity of the song exploded and it quickly became a tradition.

The beginnings of the song are humble.  In Room 388 at the Gatlinburg Inn, Felice and Boudleaux Bryant wrote the song in just minutes. Today, Room 388 has a plaque marking the birthplace of this song.

This song has become so much a part of the culture of the state that it was instituted as an official state song in 1982.  The catchy, upbeat tune has been spurring on the Volunteers for decades.

As Knoxville movers, we are part of the proud tradition and have the Volunteer spirit.  It is an infectious enthusiasm that has taken over much of the state. When you live in this area, you can’t help but get caught up in the spirit.
